Emmaline remained free. The police baffled. The neighbors began whispering to each other. Jonas was aware that as more and more time passed more and more people believed Candace had walked out on the family. There was no body, no evidence of a kidnapping. Everyone knew that Emmaline had threatened the family more than once. That she had told Candace to flee.
Jonas knew that Candace would never leave like that. He was the only one that seemed to remember that Candace having a CHILD was why Emmaline wanted her gone. If she had caved to that evil woman's wishes, She would have had to take Cherish with her. On the rare occasions Jonas saw Emmaline out in public she always had a small, smug smile playing across her lips. She always put on airs of knowing more than anyone around her but now Jonas saw it as guilt. She knew where his wife was! If only he could prove it. Maybe a private chat?
He sat alone in the dark contemplating ways to get Emmaline alone when his phone rang. At first he ignored it. The only people that called him now were Wind and Mya. He ignored it when they called back only a minute after the voicemail took the first call. On the 3 call he snatched up the phone intending to lash out at the caller for bothering him.
It was the police.
"We need you to come down to the station immediately...we have news."
It took a few minutes for that sentence to register. Then he bombarded the officer with questions.
"We will answer all of your questions once you get here."

Jonas nearly left without calling a sitter for Cherish, he was so pumped up. Thankful he knew a vampire, he call Ephriam over knowing it was better than waking his very pregnant grandmother. (HAHAHA only fairies!)
He walked into the station and looked around expecting to see his beautiful wife running to greet him. His mood deflated when he took in the somber faces of the officers that waited for him just inside the doors. One of them carried a large manilla folder.
"Please follow me Mr Solo. We have a room in the back waiting for us."
He had a million thoughts running through his head but they all got stuck in his throat. He managed a nod then followed the men to what he thought might be an interrogation room. A familiar sense of panic shot through him. Did they think HE had something to do with Candace's disappearance??
Clearing his throat, the older of the 2 men gestured to a chair.
"We recovered some photos from the outdoor security camera that was across the way from the cafe the night your wife vanished."
Jonas sat with a horrid weight of dread and anticipation in his belly. The officer seemed to have a hard time continuing.
The younger took the envelope and opened it. spilling the photos onto the table.
"I'm so sorry Jonas."
Jonas stared at the 2 pictures he could see. His wife taking garbage out. His wife dead on the ground.
Two men talked. Jonas never heard a word they said. Something inside him broke.
He stumbled out into the night's air and wept for his love.
Now he had to go home. The home he had put together with his wife. He had to tell their daughter that her mother was dead.
Well that doesn't make any sense oO Unless it was a hard attack? Which she was too young and healthy for? Unless Emmaline poisoned her in advance? :(
