Jonas was inconsolable. His heart was absolutely broken. All hope had drained out of him like the blood had drained from his face at the site of the pictures. Candace was dead.
What about their plans? Their future together? The world was open them. They had years and years to get to know each other. To travel. To raise a large family. To have their 'happily ever after". All of that was gone.
What was he supposed to do now? She was his life, his love, his purpose. He didn't know who he was with out her. The pain of her loss flowed into his heart like water going down a drain. trying to fill the emptiness but never stopping.
He tried to tell Cherish but the words would not come out. He told himself she was too young to understand anyway, why bother saying the painful truth out load? She probably didn't even remember her anyway.
He couldn't bear to be in that house. The pictures of her. The throw pillows she had picked out. The cat she brought home....the one that had lived under the same dumpster where her last breath was taken. It was too much. He scooped his daughter out of the crib and headed to Wind's house. She had been the biggest comfort to him. The mother figure to replace the mother he had never known himself. The thought of his daughter growing up the same way made the pain cut deeper into his heart. But now there was guilt. Guilt because he couldn't stand to look at her. She look so much like Candace he didn't want to be near her.
He entered the house without knocking. Why bother? He was sure everyone knew by now what had happened. Sure enough, Wind was right there seconds after the door closed behind him. He stood there. Drooped and broken.
"Can...you please take Cherish for a while? I don't....think I....am fit to take care of her right now." His voice weak and barely more than a whisper
"I think the two of you should stay here for a while. You'll need each other. Comfort each other. She lost her mother. Now she needs her father more than ever." Wind tried to sound soothing but it only seemed to make him more agitated "Lets go sit and I'll make you some warm-"
"NO! Don't you understand! I can't...I don't...It hurts too much! I can't stand this pain!"
He was shaking from head to toe.
"Please." He said in a voice that got softer and quieter. "Take her. I need to know she's safe. With you I know she will be."
Wind took Cherish from Jonas, looking over her head at him with concern. His shaking was getting worse by the minute and he looked on the verge of collapsing from the weight of his grief. She had just made the decision to call Fabian downstairs to take him to the hospital when he began convulsing.
"Jonas! Noooo! Fabian! Help!!!"
But it was too late. The grief at taken it's toll on the young mans heart. He could not bear to live with out his soulmate.
"Oh Cherish! What are we going to do?"
