Generation 8 - Chapter 18

Cherish did not understand why GG Wind was so determined to see her go to uni. Wasn't getting through high school hard enough? Her ghost parents tried to talk to her about it too, but Cherish had a hard time talking to them about anything other than small, day to day stuff. It was nice having them around, but they were ghosts. They couldn't take her to tour colleges or universities. They couldn't recommend places to go. They couldn't visit her if she went. They couldn't do anything but haunt her. The only ghost that didn't make her feel weird inside was her grandfather. She had known him in the flesh. She liked talking to him about things like the future. But he wasn't always there, or helpful. What did he know about it anyway?

Fatima had confided in her that the only reason she wanted to go to uni was to meet boys and get out from under her mother's eye. Popularity was Fatima's priority. She wasn't snobby, she didn't have her little clique that shunned everyone but each other. Fatima would be anyone's friend until they gave her a reason not to be. Cherish loved that about her.

Even though Fatima had a jam packed social schedule she always made time to hang out with Cherish. And not in a "I have to, she's family" kind if way. Or "she's lonely and I feel sorry for her" kind of way either. They were best friends. Cherish could be open and silly or sad and brooding. Fatima was there to make her feel better or curse the world with her.

After Wind pressured Fatima to take defensive martial arts so she could protect herself while out with a boy, she dragged Cherish along with her. If it wasn't for Fatima, Cherish's life would consist of plants, her dog, and her bed. Cherish tried not to imagine life after Fatima goes away to school. The idea of not having her BFF around was the only thing that made her consider uni even a tiny bit.

"I'm not even sure if I'm going to go away to uni anyway Cher. I want to be on TV!"
"What? Like an actress? Don't people go to acting school for that?"

Wind did not want to push Cherish to do things she didn't want to do or be someone she wasn't but she was worried about her. She remembers what her mother told her about watching over her to keep her from going to a dark place. She was also afraid of what will happen if Cherish stays at home after high school and Fatima goes off to college, gets married, has her own family and life away from Cherish.  Were her plants enough of a passion to give Cherish's life meaning? She wants good things for her great-granddaughter. Not a life of depression and isolation. Fatima can't take care of her forever.

  1. I think Cherish will be sad when Fatima goes off to Uni. Cherish is older and would leave first, but I see her waiting a year until Fatima was ready to go. Even then, not sure if Cherish would do well in that environment, she's such an introvert even with Fatima trying to pull her out of it. :(

She does need a bit of a push because I see her shutting herself in more, especially if Fatima does just as Wind says, moves on, gets a family, career, a life that doesn't have as much time for Cherish who lives her life stuck on pause for the most part.

    1. You summed cherish up perfectly.

No.matter how close she and Fatima are , Fatima can't live for them both. Cherish needs to step out of herself if she going to move forward.in life.

  2. Cherish is certainly selective on who she lets into her life, even with the ghosts. She will talk with her parents but she feels more comfortable with her Grandfather. The same is true with the living as she has let Fatima in.

Wind does have a dilemma on her hands as she was warned that Cherish could wind up in a dark place but yet Wind does not want to force her into anything. If there is any chance of getting Cherish to move along with her life, its with Fatima. Wind is going to have to do her best to encourage her to go as she does need to get out there and make a life for herself.

    1. You're right, she is very selective. And she doesn't see anything wrong with it. Fatima is VERY important to her, but Fatima doesn't know about what winds mom.said.

  3. Cherish is definitely quite selective on who she lets into her life. It takes a long time for Cherish to really feel comfortable with someone, if ever. I could totally see her shutting herself away from the world and living a very, very lonely life, which I know Wind does not want. She won't be able to lean on Fatima forever, so something is going to need to happen to give Cherish a bit of a push to actually have a life. It's not good for a young girl to shut herself away like that. :(

    1. This is the first sim I have had realy played with the shy trait I think. Cher gets very upset meeting new people sometimes.
No it's not good to shut yourself away from life, but you don't have to be like Fatima either. Cherish is kind of on the edge between introvert and shut it. Being introverted isn't a bad thing (I am more introvert than extrovert for sure) but Cherish could fall on either side when she comes off that edge. Fatima could be the difference.

  4. I hope Fatima has a great time, whatever she decides on doing. I do understand Wind's concerns, but uni is hard, and it;'s not for everyone. I can't see Cherish thriving in that environment and think that the first few months at least would be immensely stressful for her. She's passionate about her garden, so she should stick to doing that. It'll be harder to meet the one, but I'm sure she'll manage ^^

    1. Exactly. I think going to.uni would.have the opposite effect on her than wind wishes.

Fatima though, going off to school.is her dream. That and meeting lots of cute boys! I just hope cherish is settled enough in herself before.Fatima.graduates. her leaving could.be bad for Cherish.

  5. I love Fatima, she is such a vivid, happy person. And she's not snob (a trait that usually comes together with popularity).
I wonder if Wind will allow Cher not to go to uni... A difficult decision.

    1. She is so fun! Wind wants to help Cher, she just doesn't know how yet. And with Fatima being so extroverted and bubbly, it's so different.
